Maura Abad, Global Relationship Leader at Reliabilityweb.com and Director of Women in Reliability and Asset Management (WIRAM) shared her insights into the benefits that gender diversity provides for companies.
We are a nation of communities… a brilliant diversity spread like stars, like a thousand points of light in a broad and peaceful sky.
~ George H. W. Bush
The International Maintenance Conference is one of my favorite events of the year with over 1,000 of the world’s best reliability leaders and asset managers from 50+ countries sharing, learning and enjoying each other’s company in beautiful Southwest Florida.
I feel like I know almost everyone who participate, and they feel like family to me but if there was one thing, I could change it would be to recruit more women to attend.
World-class organizations recognize that reliability is advanced through reliability leadership; however, they also realize that results are an outcome of an engaged and empowered culture.
Leadership does not come from one person, it comes from a diverse set of stakeholders across the organization. This is especially true for reliability. The more diverse the stronger the team.
Striving to increase workplace diversity is not an empty slogan — it is a good business decision.
A 2015 McKinsey report on 366 public companies found that those in the top quartile for ethnic and racial diversity in management were 35% more likely to have financial returns above their industry mean, and those in the top quartile for gender diversity were 15% more likely to have returns above the industry mean.

At Reliabilityweb.com I know that I am valued for my unique contributions to the team and to the Aim of the organization and the diversity mix in our workforce is extraordinary. As we travel the world, the diversity changes from country to country but in almost all cases it has a great deal of room to improve on the basis of gender and that is why our work at Women in Reliability and Asset Management is so important.
The group is primarily involved in creating awareness, desire and knowledge that reliability and asset management offers excellent career options for women. Although challenges can be significant, strategies for overcoming them are opening discussed.
